Sutter Creek Open House

12/6/2025 - 12/7/2025

Description

For 49 years, Sutter Creek has hosted a magical “Old Fashioned Christmas Open House” for everyone to enjoy and start their Christmas Season. You are invited to find the spirit of Christmas in this beautiful and quaint little Gold Rush town.

The festivities begin on Friday evening, December 5th at 6pm, as Santa comes to light the Community Tree at City Hall. Father Christmas and Victorian characters will be strolling Main Street, greeting all who pass by.

The downtown Merchants will keep their doors open late with refreshments and goodies so you can get a jump on your Holiday shopping. Their beautiful window decorations will dazzle you and inside you will find their stores filled with unique and wonderful gift ideas.

Inside the beautiful and historic United Methodist Church on Main Street there will be many activities for the children including photos with Santa, arts and crafts, and snacks.

This free event will spark the Christmas Spirit in everyone!

History: Sutter Creek’s Christmas Open house was started in 1977 by the Sutter Creek Business & Professional Association, who’s President was Louise Nunn, along with board members Pat Crosby, Pat Lavoy, and George Cunningham. The event is always the first Friday of December.

The event was meant to be a thank you to their customers and an invitation to come get acquainted with the town and get in the holiday spirit. Festivities included carolers roaming the street, visits with Santa Claus, and candy for the children. It was viewed as an opportunity to give back to the community.

This event is still honored today as a way to welcome the community to town and share in the holiday spirit!
