Stellar Americana Music Kicks off in Drytown

Saturday, June 10, 2023 (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

As the newly renovated Drytown Social Club, which houses the Feist Wines tasting room, settles into its second year in business the small, roadside chic bar, restaurant and wine tasting room is planning a day full of Americana music on Saturday, June 10, 2023 starting at 1 p.m. Americana, as defined by the Americana Music Association, is “contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw.” The Social Club has an affinity for this music and the building is a natural for it. The Social Club, housed in an old Western service station turned saloon many years ago, hosts music most Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons and the winery stage has been graced by bands on the road and bands on the rise such as Mandolin Orange (now Watchouse), Grammy Award Winners such as Willie Watson and Gill Landry and the best of the Sierra Foothill and Sacramento bands. Sacramento’s darling Forever Goldrush headline the show. They have been developing their Northern California brand of Americana since 1997. Born in the gold country foothills, the quartet of childhood friends combine their passion for literate songwriting with folk, country blues and rock and roll music. No Depression describes them as “roots rock meets cowboy poetry.” For 25 years they have sharpened their rowdy roots rock with a melodic torch and twang. Texas band Corey Cross and The Burden kick off the day for the inaugural festival. Cross is a singer-songwriter born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He got his musical start playing in church, and has been crafting his unique blend of Bluegrass, Americana, and Country Music since he was a teenager. His stop in Drytown is part of his “Out West Tour.” Juan R. Govea writes in Fort Worth Weekly of his “work ethic of a cowboy” which has led to his top notch band. Also gracing the stage is Loose Engines. They play a mix of original music, classic country, and blues. “Our musical pedigrees are stellar,” says band founder Grub Mitchell, he played in his father’s country band in the 70’s and spent years on the Austin music scene A dark horse in the lineup, hailing from San Luis Obispo, is emerging quintet Longstraw. Their summer will be spent road-testing a slew of original tunes made of a mix of folk, rock, and alt-country. This hard-edged group captivates audiences with tales of lonesome highways and midnight rendezvous. A darling of the bill, The California Stars, are fronted by the charming Danny Morris. They craft a stripped-down, hard-driving, hard-drinking, hard-living style of country music. Bringing a healthy dose of rock and roll and citing diverse influences such as The Band, Wilco, and Sturgill Simpson, the result is a mix of classic country songs and rocking originals with a focus on the country music triumvirate - drinking, heartache, and murder. Owner and winemaker of Feist Wines and the Drytown Social Club muses about this venue of her creation which seems to have an inertia of its own. She likes to think of it as a “honky tonk without the disrepute” After all they host jazz bands too. The food and drink offerings of the day will be small lot wines by Feist Wines, local craft beers, farm to fork wood fired pizza, organic salads and artisan cheese and charcuterie, V. Miller Meats Barbecue, desserts by Amador pastry chef Ingrid Fraser and local ice cream from Munnerlyn’s. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or at feistwines.com Space is limited and advanced tickets are recommended. The Drytown Social Club is located at 15950 Highway 49 in Drytown, CA.
