In recognition of Women’s History Month, AAUW Amador Branch presents “Amador County Women Leaders in Education,” a panel discussion, Saturday, March 21, 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Sutter Creek Community Center. Panel members Sinead Klement, Sadie Hedegard, Tara Hannah, and Michaelynn Lucas will discuss their experiences and aspirations as women with careers in education. AAUW Amador Branch Program Chair Sandra Bowman will moderate the panel discussion and provide an opportunity for questions from the audience. Topics for discussion with these accomplished educators will include mentorship and support for women in education, leadership opportunities and skills, and sources of inspiration. Sinead Klement is the principal of Jackson Junior High School. Before moving into school administration, she was a junior high science teacher, contributed to the statewide rollout of the Next Generation Science Standards, and served as a Teacher on Special Assignment and Director of Student Success. Sadie Hedegard, Ed.D. is the Assistant Superintendent, Special Education & SELPA Director of Amador County Office of Education and Unified School District. She supports special education programming and compliance, implementation of district-wide initiatives, and collaborates closely with all educational partners to foster innovative learning environments. Tara Hannah is the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) District Director, Coordinator and Elective Teacher and former first-generation AVID student. AVID is a college readiness program that helps students, particularly those from underrepresented or first-generation college backgrounds, achieve their academic potential and pursue higher education opportunities. Michaelynn Angie Lucas has a master’s degree in Special Education and is the Extensive Support Needs Teacher with the Amador County Office of Education. She also currently serves as the Special Educators of Amador County (SEAC) Union President. This event is free and open to the public. The Sutter Creek Community Center is at 35 Church Street, Sutter Creek, CA 95685. AAUW is a national organization whose mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. We welcome new members. Membership is open to all graduates who hold an associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
